9 months ago I was a stone and a half heavier, very unfit, had high blood pressure and felt low.
My GP recommended talking to Rob at The Lifestyle Medicine Centre (LMC). I used to play quite a bit of sport but in recent years that had stopped and I had always felt too self conscious and uncomfortable in gyms, so I was rather sceptical before my first meeting with Rob.
However, our discussion was great and not what I expected at all. We discussed my health and what changes I could make to start improving my health now and in the long term. Following our meeting I felt motivated to try an exercise plan and with the support of the team at The LMC I am now on my 3rd personalised exercise programme. Each time I go to The LMC I feel cared for and among friends. The atmosphere is not that of a conventional gym - it’s friendly and motivating and offers me far more support than I could have imagined. Rob, Karen and the team want people to succeed and help at all times, be it with technical advice, encouragement, managing exercise programmes, the text to check you're OK, the chat and banter or just their support.

I love going to The LMC and try to get there at least 3 times a week. The results so far (and it will be a lifetime journey) are really great - I've shed weight, dropped a dress size, become much fitter, feel healthier and have been able to reduce my medication levels!  I now feel much happier, positive and fit for life!

A series of blood tests at my doctors in 2014-15 indicated that I had an increasing trend in my blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar levels. I was advised that with a family history of type 2 diabetes I should make some lifestyle changes so that I did not go on to develop a serious medical condition in the future. A follow up appointment in July this year once again showed a further increase in blood sugar levels and meant that what I thought was an improved lifestyle regimen had failed to have any impact. It was then suggested that I contacted the team at the lifestyle medicine centre (LMC) to seek advice and start a supervised dietary and exercise programme.

My first impression on meeting the team at LMC was their understanding of my condition and their willingness to help me understand how to improve my health. I had a consultation with the dietician who helped me develop a more interesting, balanced eating plan and soon after I met with the clinical exercise consultant who went through the importance of physical activity in reducing and managing blood pressure and blood sugar. I was placed on a physical activity programme to help me achieve these goals. Now, a few months on I continue to improve under the guidance of the team, who not only make the programmes enjoyable but continue to support me in every aspect of my lifestyle. The most rewarding thing has been a recent review at my GP where I have seen a reduction in my blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar levels. In fact my blood pressure and cholesterol levels have returned to within normal range and I have been told that if I can continue with my lifestyle programme then it is likely that I will be able to avoid the need for medication in the future. The expert guidance and support I receive from the team at LMC is unique. I have, over the years exercised at many facilities locally and have never received such excellent advice and social support and more importantly seen such significant results in such a short space of time. This combination of advice, medical knowledge and support has ensured that I will continue to be healthy as I age. I would personally like to thank all of the team and would not hesitate to recommend this facility to anyone wishing to improve their health and well-being.
